We are looking for ambitious and motivated Senior Press Officer and Press Officers to work in our busy and high-performing media team. 

These roles offer the opportunity to handle high-profile media issues and create innovative media campaigns to communicate the department’s priorities and its work. They also offer the opportunity to work with a diverse range of stakeholders including ministers, journalists, policy officials and communications colleagues from across Whitehall. 

Successful candidates will be expected to work to pace - providing high quality communications advice quickly and efficiently. As well as experience of dealing with front page new stories or breaking broadcast news, we are looking for people who are confident using social and digital channels to innovate and communicate to audiences. 

You will be based within the external communications directorate in London, which also includes marketing, internal communications and digital teams. 

Key responsibilities: 

You will effectively communicate the department’s policies, defending
and enhancing its reputation by: 

  • Implementing media handling strategies for the department’s key communications campaigns. 
  • Working with others in the media team and policy colleagues to provide a swift, accurate service to Ministers and journalists. 
  • Researching, drafting and issuing clear, concise lines to take across a range of channels. 
  • Working closely with other teams in the communication directorate including news planning, partner engagement and digital and also Number 10. 
  • Providing essential 24/7 service as part of the on-call out of hours press office service. 
  • The Senior Press Officer will manage a team of press officers.
